Author Interviews

It’s been raining a lot. I’m surprised we haven’t had any snow yet. Then again, last year was mild as well. Am I hell bent on having a snow storm? Maybe.

I find myself looking at the calendar again. I would have posted more but for some reason was unable to, apparently WordPress was having an issue or two. With Christmas around the corner I find myself busy and yet all I think about is going into labor. Needless to say my efforts have been futile. I know I must be annoying my partner, I annoy myself thinking about it. But it’s constantly there, on my mind, like a weight that just won’t lift.

So, in an attempt to distract myself I wrote a few interview questions. I’d like to interview published authors and post the interviews on my blog. If you’re interested visit the interview page for details. I’m sure I’ll add to it as time goes on. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask.

Five Myths about Writers

1) If you’re an author you’re rich.

How I wish this was the case but sadly it’s not. The majority of writers work multiple jobs and struggle to pay bills like everyone else. Hell, I’d say they work harder because writing is a job–an unpaid job unless you get lucky.

2)Writers are introverts.

It’s not that writers are anti-social, we tend to have a lot going on in our own heads which makes us seem that way. In fact most writers are very in tune with what’s going on around them–soaking up dialogue, body language, scenery etc. Each interaction is a chance to enrich one’s writing.

I stumbled upon this post a few days ago:  10 Myths about Introverts by Carl. I enjoyed it and thought it fit into the topic of writers being introverts.

3) Writers are caffeine junkies.

We all know the stereotype of writers being caffeine addicts–hunched over a laptop in the corner of a cafe with a steaming cup close at hand. Many people enjoy caffeine. Personally I find I work best sipping on hot water vs a caffeinated beverage.

4) It’s easy to be a writer.

Sure, anyone can write but it’s hard to be a good writer. Not only are there a gazillion rules and regulations, but there’s also a personal critic to contend with. A writer’s biggest critic is usually the writer himself/herself.

5) Writers are conflicted individuals.

Many writers use writing as a way to deal with adversity, which fuels the misconception that all writers are super emotional. Lets face it struggle makes a good story and gives the writer a release for their anger, grief.

One of Those Days

Today has been non-stop. I meant to blog earlier but ended up having a rough start. So this post will be more like a journal entry than anything. It all started last night. I couldn’t sleep and work up at 5:00am, stayed in bed until 7:00am. Some how I fell back asleep but it was very restless. Next thing I knew it was 12:00pm! I get up, get dressed am in the middle of getting my breakfast when someone knocks on the door. So I let my boyfriend’s friend in. Shoot the shit with him for a few minutes while my bf gets ready–no cereal for me. I make it out of the house, drive to work, and make pancakes. They were awesome by the way–banana topped with my version of homemade syrup.

Finally, I feel caught up and start working. Only to realize that I have a hospital tour scheduled in oh…less than 30 minutes. So I’m typing, shoveling pizza in my mouth and now leaving.
